The Bucklew Scholarship

The Bucklew Scholarship is valued up to $10,000 per year for up to four years and is awarded to twenty West Virginia undergraduate first-time freshmen students.

Applicant Criteria

Students must be WV residents, attend and graduate from a West Virginia high school, and must be admitted to WVU as a first-time freshman by  January 16, 2024. Home-schooled students who are WV residents must be home-schooled for at least their senior year in order to be eligible to apply.

Students must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to be considered:

  • Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.80

  • Have a minimum ACT test score of 30 or an SAT test score of 1360

Eligible students should have received an official printed invitation, or email invitation, with instructions on how to submit required essays. Additional materials will be sent to these students to be completed in November 2024.

The deadline to be admitted to WVU to be invited to apply is January 16, 2024.  The deadline to submit the online Bucklew application is Sunday, February 4, 2024, 11:59 p.m.

$10,000 per year for four years.

Approximately 30 students are selected from the applicant pool to receive phone interviews. From that group, 20 will be invited to campus as Bucklew Scholars to interview for a Foundation Scholarship. Five students from this group will be offered the Foundation Scholarship.

Bucklew Scholarship does stack in most cases. Bucklew does not stack with Climb Higher, University Merit, or Foundation itself.
