A native of West Virginia and a first-generation college graduate, Kurtis Dennison joined the Honors College team in February 2025 after serving as an academic advisor for the International Studies Program since 2022.
Kurtis brings a wealth of global and community-focused experience to his role. From 2015 to 2017, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda, later working as a project manager for the Mobile Arts for Peace Project from 2017 to 2019. His commitment to service also includes roles with AmeriCorps VISTA and Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts.
Academically, Kurtis holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fairmont State University and a Master of Arts from the University of Sussex's Institute for Development Studies. He is currently pursuing a PhD in sociology at West Virginia University.
Kurtis credits experiential learning as a cornerstone of his academic and professional journey. While he may no longer be designing theatrical costumes as he did during his undergraduate years, he is passionate about fostering co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities that enrich students' lives.
